Our Award Winning Engineer, Alex Brogan

While pursuing a Master of Science in Renewable and Clean Energy at the University of Dayton in 2015, Alex Brogan (pictured, second from left) also served as the lead engineer for the University of Dayton Industrial Assessment Center (UD-IAC). The center is one of 24 around the country, funded by the U.S. Department of Energy to perform free energy assessments for regional mid-sized manufacturers. After being invited to present her research for the IAC Directors Meeting earlier this month, Brogan’s team was honored with the 2015 Center of Excellence Award. Senator Jeanne Shaheen, whose Energy Efficiency Improvement Act co-sponsored with Senator Portman was recently signed into law, was present to congratulate the award recipients.

Alex is also the newest member of Plug Smart’s engineering team, after having worked as a co-op at Plug Smart during college. “I am very proud of the work the UD-IAC has done this year, and it’s exciting to see our efforts make a real impact on the environment and our clients’ bottom lines,” said Brogan. “This is exactly the type of work Plug Smart does in the private sector, so working here is a great fit for me.”

Along with partner Vijay Gopalakrishnan, and guidance from the UD-IAC’s Director, Dr. Kelly Kissock, Alex researched how to maximize energy savings in variable-flow pumping applications. The research culminated in publishing a technical paper, which was also recently presented for the American Council for an Energy-Efficiency Economy (ACEEE) Summer Study on Energy Efficiency in Industry conference in Buffalo, New York.
