LORDSTOWN LOCAL SCHOOLS

Location: Warren, Ohio

The Client

Lordstown Local School District is a highly-rated district located in Warren, Ohio. The district is made up of one elementary school and one high school, with an enrollment total of 528 students.

The Challenge

The preliminary energy benchmarking analysis showed that when compared to other school buildings of similar age, geography and HVAC systems, Lordstown High School currently uses 83.7 percent more energy and costs 46.9 percent more per square foot.

The Solution

Plug Smart’s improvement package addressed several long-term needs, including improvements to the roofs at the high school, a new boiler to replace the failing original boiler at the high school, and LED lighting and building automation systems throughout the district. The project was fully funded by a blend of state grant funds, utility bill savings, and operations and maintenance savings

and rebates.

"The district seeks to create the best academic experiences and opportunities for our students, and we are grateful we can deliver that without it impacting our taxpayers... We are excited to be taking advantage of the grants and ongoing savings, but we’re also fixing aging aspects of our buildings, improving classroom comfort for our students and staff, and modernizing the lighting in the classrooms, high school gymnasium and auditorium,”
